Hex Ezcan - a great addition. Stephen Potts on Oct 13, 2024

This is one of those products that really does its job well on the BMW allowing accessories to be wired easily into the canbus system. Simple to fit, great software, very programmable and makes the installation of new lights and dash cam really easy.

This really is the best way to have 4 switched circuits that can be controlled from the bike's own switchgear. I use heated grips to control the output for my heated jacket and a switched feed for a USB.

Great little gadget for adding accessories to the can/bus electrical system on a BMW without error messages and with some great control options.

I wanted to improve the lighting on my S1000XR and, after some research, I bought a HEX GEN II ezCAN, a pair of Denali S4 LED lights and the Cymarc spotlight mounting brackets from NN. I already had the Denali SoundBomb horn installed on the bike so used the opportunity to wire that through the ezCAN along with the Pro-Oiler chain lube system I transferred over from my previous bike, an Aprilia Tuono (highly recommended). The hardest part was removing enough of the bodywork to see what was going on after which the install was pretty straightforward. The only issue that took me a while to work out was whether to wire each light to a separate circuit on the ezCAN or combine them onto one circuit. The only difference is, if you use two circuits, only one of the lights dims when the indicators are being used rather than both. I opted to use just one of the four ezCAN circuit. As I didn’t order one of NN’s kits, as I already had the horn, the wiring that came with the ezCAN and Denali lights needed a bit of fettling to connect up. Not a big deal but not plug and play. In hindsight, to avoid this I would probably have bought the Denali CANsmart Controller GEN II rather than the ezCAN as it comes with the appropriate wiring loom. The box of tricks is also made by HEX under licence to Denali so no difference there. I haven’t had a chance to take the bike out and test it al out yet as we are in 4 weeks lockdown here in NZ but will do so at the first opportunity.
