This is that product that you think "why didn't they do this on the stock bike"? I wouldn't believe the difference it makes unless I'd tried it for myself. Not just the spring, but the whole back of the engine, most of the swing arm and the back of the cylinders are now cleaner.

Bought this to keep my new pride and joy clean, unfortunately hit a snag.
To fit you have to remove the rear spring adjuster knob permanently. Having only just got the bike I am still playing so decided not to fit this yet.
I may save it until the weather changes and it’s needed.
Poor review I know but worth knowing before you invest.

Pare boue facile à monter et discret qui protège bien l’amortisseur.
Mais trop cher surtout pour du plastique.
Le même en aluminium aurait été bien mieux.

Good looking part but not easy to fit, extension pieces are difficult to locate and removing the rear wheel may be an advantage.
Fixing the forward fixing screws is not easy due to the angle of the mudslinger, a bit of patience is required but they will locate eventually, a tapered screw head may be advantageous.

After replacing the bone jarring OE rear shock on the R Nine T with a Wilbers 640 it was obvious that it would need more protection as there is no protection for the rear shock on the standard bike. I considered a hugger and the Machineart Mudsling. I have no regrets choosing the Mudsling. Solid without being heavy and easy to fit. It looks like it should have been there all along. Essential kit from Nippy Normans.

Bought it because the rear shock absorber is practically fully exposed to debris thrown up by the wheel. It was very easy to install and does it job and you hardly see it. Big plus for little money in rainy Belgium

Got one of these on my GSA and it works really well, both in terms of keeping the rear suspension clean and protecting the rider's legs. Bought one for my Urban GS based on that and it does a great job. The only difficulty will be if you want to adjust the spring preload.

A good piece of kit which does a great job of protecting the spring from road crud. Not the easiest to fit if you’ve not got child sized hands but with a little patience and time you’re there.

The Mudsling was very easy to fit and looks great on the bike and does not spoil the lines of the bike. It completely protects the Rear Shock and Battery from water and dir so a very useful addition to the bike.

Very good quality. Easy to install. Looks good. Note: The product does not act like a hugger. The rider and back end of the bike will be covered with water and debris in inclement weather. The MudSling works very well to protext the shock and areas in front of it
This item doesn't fit the 2017 on standard R9t Charles Deakins on Aug 30, 2018

The instructions supplied claim it will fit by moving the suspension adjuster knob/ assembly,
This still isn't enough clearance the adjuster is un useable and fouls the brake reservoir if the knob is left on,
it also contacts the hose on the charcoal cannister on the left side,
there needs to be a different version with clearance for the shock for standard UK R 9t 2017 on,
HERE IS THE ANSWER FROM NIPPY NORMANS
The MudSling fits with the BMW shock, Ohlins BM440 and BM650, and other premium shocks. Installation to the Pure, Scrambler, Urban GS, and Racer models is simple using four screws to existing points on the frame.
The standard R nineT is the only model that comes with a shock pre-load adjuster mounted to the OEM shock. To provide sufficient installation clearance, the adjuster body has to be rotated to the side by loosening, then tightening one screw. After setting the preferred pre-load position prior to installation the knob must be removed to provide sufficient clearance. The re-positioned pre-load adjustment body and shaft is still functional. Instead of using the knob, adjustments can be made with an 8mm socket or box end wrench on the end of the shaft.
The procedure is explained in the Installation Instructions. Ohlins shocks fit easily on the standard R NineT and other models. A hole was not made in the MudSling for the adjuster knob as then water would have got through (even with a grommet) and suined the point of the MudSling.
If the tube from the cannister touches the MudSling (again only on the R NINE T model) then the tube or cannister can be adjusted to compensate. If the tube touches the MudSling slightly this is not a problem.
