Wunderlich GPS Security for RT Kevin Ross on Aug 09, 2024

A quality product and such a simple design, why BMW never fitted this as standard on a bike of this price.
Nippy Normans & Wunderlich,
great service & quality products, what a team.

Bought the Wunderlich GPS security lock for the RT GPS mount. Fitted fine and works well. Would recommend.

Bought this some time ago. Initially worked well but eventually broke the plastic release arm mechanism that allows you to remove the Sat Nav from the mounting. The cheapest option was to have a replacement release arm 3D printed (£80) otherwise it would have meant buying a whole new BMW Sat Nav mount at circa £150. The replacement release arm was fabricated in flexible nylon to avoid the same fate. Alas, just a dozen operations later and the arm was snapped clean off when I locked the bike and the Sat Nav very nearly ended up on the floor. In my opinion this item is not fit for purpose.

Works as expected, fits well.
Expensive for what it is.
Given 4 stars due to relative cost.
Appears that if given less than 4 stars reviews on Nippy Normans seldom show!!!!!
This is a pity as everything else service, quality of goods, etc from Nippy Norman is first class. Negative reviews provided they are seen as objective can be very helpful and easily sorted from those which are not objective. Will be interesting to see if this review appears in full!

An excellent piece of kit that should come with bike. Fitted to the bike in about 30mins to find the security arm was not clearing the slot at the sat nav release button, In the end I had to remove the arm and tweak it slightly. Now working as it should.

A well made, easy to fit item that takes the stress out of walking away from your bike.
Well packaged, speedy delivery, if I had another nav to secure, I’d buy another!

Fitted in less than 1 hour quite easy really. Taking bike to bits took the longest.
Product works as it should but did need slight adjustments to fit, had to bend top two tabs slightly so the unit sat flush otherwise the top cowling would not sit down flush on bike. All in all happy with it only I think it is a bit expensive as the manual locking system is a 3rd of the price but I thing it looks unsightly on a well finish bike.

This locking device for sat nav 6 was easy to fit. I watched YouTube videos a couple of times which then made it easy to fit. You don’t have to keep taking the satnav off every time you leave your bike. For example petrol stations.

Having paid £150 and with a well respected name I expected better from this item. Installation was far from easy as the 3 tabs needed a lot of adjustment to allow the 2 holes to fit over the existing pegs. Also the locking blade had to be removed to allow the edge of the plunger to be trimmed in order that the mechanism worked properly. After all of this it does now work well, albeit very noisily. Note that even though there may be no locking cubby hole on the right the wiring loom is still available for use (at least it was on mine).

Easier to fit than it appears and works well. A neat solution to secure the satnav that should have been fitted by BMW in the first place!

Now that it's fitted and working I'm really happy with it. However, the instructions are wrong for UK (non-radio) models: you DON'T have to take the RH panels off as you need to connect into the solenoid on the 'glovebox' on the LH side. As with a few others, my lock also interfered with the plastic sat nav release mechanism. My solution was to unscrew the metal lock from the actuator and VERY SLIGHTLY bend and re-profile the end with a file. Works perfectly now

Excellent piece of kit. Easy to fit (I followed a Wunderlich You Tube video). Note: Once you raise the screen to do the work, if you have keyless start, don't wander off, with the key in your pocket, for a coffee half-way through or the screen might lower on it's own and damage something). The item is a bit of a tight fit over the grommets but works well enough.

Quality issue with bracket, otherwise great security item. Tim Nelmes on Sep 06, 2020

I've bought many Wunderlich products previously and the quality has been excellent but the bracket on this item was way out of alignment and wouldn't fit so reshaping was required. Instructions are pictorial only. Works well and worth the extra money over the manual key-locking version.

Excellent piece of kit and very well made, but on the expensive side.
Easy to fit but instructions with the item are limited only to photos which was disappointing as some uncertainty regarding where some clips or mushroom fastener were, but an excellent Wunderlich (USA) video on the fitting process on the internet

Good sturdy product. The fit was a little tight, so I had to gently ease off a little material where the tabs go into the plastic and the long tabs needed gently bending to fit onto the plastic lugs so that they lie flat. Overall, it took me about an hour to fit and works as stated on the box.

Great piece of kit. Mine arrived about 2 hours ago and is now completely fitted.
One thing to note. The instructions show removal of the R/H speaker pod and upper fairing. This should only be if you have the audio system fitted, otherwise remove the L/H side pod and upper fairing. You are plugging in to the central locking for the glove box, so no audio means L/H cubby hole only has central locking.

This really should have been fitted as standard by BMW. Great piece of kit and easy to install. No need to remove the sat nav at every fuel and tea stop in case some chancer works out that you simply have to press the big button to walk off with a £400+ GPS. Well done Wunderlich and so much more aesthetically pleasing than their other GPS security product!

Excellent, I have wanted to buy this for a long time and it should really come as standard. Please take note BMW. Watch the videos on how to fit, as it there is a lot of trim to remove. Be careful when removing the last screw on the wind screen as it is heavy and can drop if you don't have hold of it when you remove that last screw. Unscrew the black plastic screws completely from the cover trim and the remaining black plug will pull out easy. Fitting the mechanism is very simple and plugs in without any fuss. This really secures the sat nav in place and means you can walk away and leave the sat nav on the bike. I will still remove the sat nav if I'm parking up for any length of time as the lock is completely hidden, including a sticker stating a lock is fitted might have been a good idea to detour the more inquisitive community!

Although the instructions are pictorial (photos), it is worth just taking your time - mine fitted well but on activation had a tendency to push on the manual mechanism - with a little persuasion it cleared the plastic and now works like a dream - much better than the manual lock (so long as you have central locking of course). I feel secure in the knowledge that I can walk away from the bike and leave it the GPS unattended for short periods.

Fantastic Product, I had this on my old RT 1200 and now have this on my New 1250 RT. This locks the sat Nav on solid. Unlike other products, once installed You can not see this, plugs right in to the central locking system, and even works on the key remote.
Highly recommend...
